Canine Freestyle is dancing with your dog, or performing a series of tricks to a backdrop of music. It should be a display of pleasing teamwork. It can be as challenging as you want to make it, or simply having fun with your dog. It is fun and builds a great connection between the dog and the handler. Canine freestyle performances can be developed to allow for dog or handler limitations. Performances can be shared with a variety of audiences. Titles can be earned by video-taping performances which can be submitted to the freestyle organizations.

AKC LURE COURSING REGULATIONS

There are many venues for running your dog(s) for titles. Traditionally, most of these groups only accepted sighthounds, but now there are many competitions for all breeds and even mixed breeds.

There are basically two types of competitions for running:
  • Straight Racing
  • Lure Coursing
(Click HERE to read More Information on both events)

There are two organizations in the United States that promote live coursing after jackrabbits but these are only for the true sighthound breeds and only in a handful of Western states, so are not a common sport for most dog owners.

Racing and Lure Coursing are fun sports that many people and dogs enjoy. If the dog likes the chase, it requires very little training on the owner's part. The atmosphere at one of these affairs is easy going and laid back.

AKC TRACKING REGULATIONS

Tracking events are the competition form of canine search and rescue. They provide training for dogs and their handlers to meet some human needs for tracking and finding lost humans or other animals, as well as, demonstrating the extremely high level of scent capability that dogs possess.

For more information on tracking titles, descriptions of courses, and complete rules and regulations regarding the Sport of Tracking, write to the American Kennel Club and they will send you a copy.
